Trek to Salher and Salota

Last weekend we went to Salher and Salota.
Salher is the tallest fort in Maharashtra.

Sarang (Who is back from US for a month) booked the tickets for 6 of us in the Sakri bus.
We started from Shivaginagar at 9.00 PM. We had hoped to get some good sleep during the night travel, but sleeping in the Red and yellow MSRTC bus was impossible. The bus was overcrowded, and the seats uncomfortable. (But at least we has a seat !!)

We had a reservation till Satana, but as the bus was going via taharabad, we extended out tickets, and travelled till taharabad.

We reached Taharabad a hour before schedule (almost at 5.00 AM). It was cold, but fortunately, we found a tea stall and had 2 glasses of piping hot tea.

After waiting for 2 long hours, we finally got a bus to Mulher, and further a Jeep to Salher.

Had a breakfast (and another cup of red coloured sweet boiled water....perhaps thats the way tea is prepared in Salher :-)), and started off our climb at 9.30 AM.

It is a big fort, it took us almost 3 hours to reach the cave where we had planned to spend the rest of the day and the night.

the cave was nice and cosy, and well shielded from the chilling wind.
There were already a few people who had come there before us (3 guys from Symantec Pune..and 2 more from somewhere..but surely not IT ppl)

We had our lunch, and for the first time in any trek i have been to...had a good 2 -3 hours of afternoon nap.

Later we climbed to the top of the fort, where there is a temple of Parshuram.

Got back to our cave at about 6.30, made our dinned (What we ate can be called as a pulav)
We slept pretty early.

The night was cold, and I didi not have a sleeping bag, my feet were cold, but it was not too bad.
There were also a lot of rats for company.

In the morning, we woke up at 7.00, an after finishing our tea and breakfast, we started off for our next destination...Salota

Finding our route at Salota was tough, but then a shepard from a village below came to our rescue, and led us to the top of the fort.

We quickly started our descent, and were in waghambe in a short time.

In Waghambe, we had a local cold drink (Goldspot like drink in thumbs up bottle !)

We soon got a bus to Mulher, and then another on to Satana.
But this time we wer not going to travel in a MSRTS Lal dabba. So we went to Nashik, hoping to get a Volvo.

In Nashik, we had a sumptuous dinner at Kaka Ka Restaurent . Although we did not get a Volvo, the luxury bus that we got was much better than a lal dabba .

We reached back to Pune by 5.00 AM.....and That was the end of an excellent trek.

Here are a few more snaps.
